Between the Roman’s and Viking’s conquest of England, the dog breeding scene changed greatly. The Romans brought with them large, powerful herding dogs to protect their livestock, while the Vikings favoured speed and agility with spritz-type herders that could cover great distances in a matter of seconds. As these two dog breeds were exposed to each other, the Border Collie breed started to form. Offering unrivalled herding pedigree, the Border Collie established itself as the world’s greatest herder.
